For those who have experienced the site logging them out suddenly for a minute, or sometimes a little longer, dont fret, this wasnt the system going down. This was me working on things behind the scenes, usually doing a database backup before each change. When i do a backup the database momentarily goes offline to do it, thus everyone gets logged out.
Im pleased to report, the first round of upgrades which were migrating the whole site to a new VM in my cluster with updated apache and php completed with only minor hickups.(had to update a few sections that used php code that was depreciated.)
The second batch, which i completed last night with no hickups, and only a few minutes of downtime was migrating the entire database server to a new seperate VM as well, with the latest MySQL. The new version is noticably faster, and i havent even shifted all the cpu power to it from the old one yet. So it may yet get even a little faster once i fully decommission the old database server(moving some extra files i stored there off it before deleting the whole VM.)
The third batch hasnt happenned yet, but involved firmware updates to the cluster itself hardware wise, and then DUN DUN DUN, the install of 2 new processors into the main server of the cluster. Out will go the 2 x Xeon E5620 i7 Series Quad Cores, And in will go the 2 new Xeon X5650 i7 Series HEX Cores. Thats right the main server will have twin six core cpus. and also of a higher speed per core than the old ones.
These processors cost me a pretty penny and if Anyone can help out via donations it would be a nice Christmas/Hanukkah gift for FurrTrax. Remember we are all donation driven, and we intend to stay that way!
